I heart faces-photojournalism

I wasn't going to enter this week's contest because I didn't think I had anything that fit this category. I was editing some of my pics from last week and I noticed this great picture of Nicolas and Leo. Maybe I'm seeing it through mommy eyes but I loved my husbands expression and love that you have to imagine Nic's face. I also liked how the lines of the pool and the chairs lead you to them.

Our pool days are coming to an end but I'm glad I have a few cute picture s to remember this summer. To see more great photojournalism entries click below.

St. Lucia Vacation Part 1

Leo, T (BFF), AJ (BFF's hubby) and I took an all-inclusive vacation to St. Lucia. We had a blast. Leo and I had done an all inclusive vacation last year and loved how relaxing it was. So this year when planning a vacation Leo and T teamed up and picked this great location. We got there on Tuesday 8/17 and the first thing we did was grab something to eat and drink.

and I took advantage of the sun setting and got this picture.

We caught up w/ our friends, had a great dinner (albeit slow service) and proceeded to go bed early.

We all hung out at the beach the next day.

This is a cute one of BFF and me. (taken w/ my P&S)

We tried doing a photo shoot one evening as the sun was setting but I could not figure out how to balance all the light in the back and the subjects.

These are some of my best and they weren't that good.

I handed the camera over to AJ and he was able to get us both in focus with a cool background.

These are just a few. I will share some more later, but Nic is not feeling so hot so I'm on my way to pick him up from his babysitter.

Have a great week...

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8/29

It has a hectic week after getting back from vacation. Why does it seem that we always need a vacation from our vacation? But I was able to get all my pics for the scavenger hunt. Enjoy.

Bokeh

I completely forgot about the POTW, but I had one from my vacation. I went out to look for things to photograph and I noticed these delicate purple flowers and the sun streaming behind the bushes.

Business

It may be a stretch but my hubby (Leo)is going on a business trip so I took a picture of him. Nic and I dropped him off at the airport earlier today. I know we will manage but I already miss him.

Eco-friendly

I try to recycle everything that can be recycled in my house. This is what we have in the recycle bin so far this week.

Repetition

These leaves caught me eyes when I noticed the cool pattern. They were vibrant and so symmetrical.

Music

Lastly, most music comes from Nic's loud toys. His bilingual drum and guitar are just a few.

In A Yellow House Challenge: Trees

For the next week or so I will be sharing lots of pictures from my vacation. One night we were waiting for the transportation to the restaurant, I noticed the moon peeking from behind a huge palm tree. I was envisioning a different picture but I think this one turned out just fine. What do you think?

Since we are no longer there, all I have are my memories and these pictures.

Vacation Edition: Scavenger Hunt

Leo and I went on our adults only vacation this past week. We had a great time catching up with our BFF's from Miami (since they joined us) and enjoying sunny beach days. One of my goals was to get a tan, water ski, sleep in, hike a small mountain, get all my pics for the scavenger hunt, and enjoy my time with Leo. All were accomplished. So this is my scavenger hunt, vacation edition. I hope you enjoy them.

Leading Lines:

I'm not sure if this counts as leading lines, but the lines of the boat and Leo & me lead your view to the mountains. These were called the Piton Mountains.

Comfortable:

I think this is self explanatory. The bed was so comfortable and sleeping and letting the sun wake us up was a great change of pace.
Feet:

This was taken w/ my P&S. Leo and I were relaxing by the pool and enjoying the beautiful beach view.

Sight:

I took advantage and got some really great sunset shots. This one was one of my favorites. The sky was orange and pink and the sun was just peeking out of the clouds. It was a beautiful sight.

Sweet:

And lastly, sweet. We arrived at our room and this was laying on our bed. Chocolate covered fruit. Yummy!

I heart faces-Got To Wear Shades

I have already shared this photo on my blog... but it fits so well for the I heart faces challenge.

Leo, Nic and I were headed for a party and I couldn't resist taking the picture. His glasses were like a mirror and being the photographer, I'm never in pictures.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8/15

Here are my scavenger hunt finds...

Mood:

Nicolas is learning emotions and we said make a sad face and this was his response...So his mood was sad for just a second.

Something masculine:

At the photowalk, I took this picture and it just screamed manly. It reminded me of the Pittsburgh Steelers, steel workers, and dirty sweaty men.

Something feminine:

I've been in search of cute bathing suits for our adult only vacation vacation so this afternoon Leo, Nic and I were walking at target and I saw this huge display of bathing suits. And it screamed feminine. Oh and I have one of these, and no it is not a string bikini.

Architecture:

This is one from my archives. I took this one while we were on vacation in Texas. I really liked the reflection of the clouds and the modern look of this building.

Initials:

I took a few pics of my initials but I didn't like any of them. And I started scribbling and then I remembered that I know the alphabet in sign language. These are not the best pictures but these are my initials spelled out with my hands.

I will be on vacation this week so no blog post until I get back...boo. I hope you have a great week, I know I will. :)

POTW: Mood & random thoughts

Last week we were teaching Nicolas how to make funny faces. We asked him to make a sad face and this is what he came up with...

His "mood" was sad (although not a real sad). We could not stop laughing. The POTW will be posted on Thursday so click here to see the other great interpretations.

He is getting so verbal and understanding so much. It is amazing to see him become a little person. Some funny recent things, he runs away from us and when we finally catch him he says say "that's funny." I don't find that funny (well maybe just a little.)

As part of our night time routine, I sing to him right before bed. His eyes are heavy and he starts humming along as I sing. It is so sweet. It is a song my mom used to sing to us when we were kids and it has stuck with us.

I took a week hiatus from blogging last week but I'm back.

Paper Mama Photo Challenge: Buddies

Nic and Pebbles are "like peas and carrots." Nicolas wakes up looking and yelling for Pebbles. And while Pebbles can be a little rough with Nicolas I know she loves him too. I was fidgeting with my camera and I saw Pebbles and Nicolas hanging out watching TV. (to see the story board bigger click on the image)

We never wanted a second dog because Pebbles was so high maintenance. We could not imagine another dog in the house. We always said that her playmate would be our first baby. And this has been true. Pebbles steals Nic's blanket, Nic will run away with her treats, yet we know that they truly love each and their bond will last forever.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 8/1

This was a really slow week for me photography wise. Leo was out of town so my time was consumed by taking care of Nicolas all by myself. I was able to take some pictures and here are my scavenger hunt finds...

1: Wide Open

This is one of my favorite pictures from the photowalk and I used it for POTW and Macro Monday. I loved the colors of the flowers and the color of the butterfly. Patience paid off.

2:Clock

This is Leo's alarm clock, he has had it longer than we have been together (and that is a very long time 11+ years). It is the ugliest green piece of junk and it is partially broken.

The last number is missing one of the lights and the top has a wax burn. Leo tried to impress me and lit candles and the wax burned the top of the alarm clock. Oops.

And here I'm encouraging Nicolas to break it so it can get put out of its misery.

And Papi caught us red handed...maybe next time.

3:JunkThere was so much junk at the Durham photo walk, it was hard to pick one picture. I really liked this picture. I got some cool bokeh and headlight was a cool junky specimen.

4:ShinyAll the windows were so clean and shiny and I was able to get a really good self portrait in the window.

5:View from belowPebbles was being mean to Nicolas so I punished her in the stairs. I was standing below the staircase trying to get a good picture of her pitiful face. As the time goes along both Nicolas and Pebbles are becoming rougher with each other. Pebbles does not have the motherly instinct they fight like brother and sister. It makes for interesting evenings.

I hope you had a great weekend. Too see more cool scavenger hunt pics click below.
